Unlocking The Secrets To Growth Web

We’re uncovering the truth behind the sustainability-profitability paradox and revealing some game-changing innovations from Smith & McLaurin. We’ll help you discover how to navigate the rapidly-evolving business landscape, dodge the Plastic Packaging Tax, and tap into the unexpected profitability of reusability.

In the wake of COVID-19 and Brexit, businesses must adapt to a new normal – navigating reduced order volumes, high stock levels, and increasing pressure to adopt environmentally responsible practices. In this evolving landscape, three elements have emerged as focal points for sustainability: biodegradability, composability, and recyclability. Yet, the reality of achieving these traits, particularly once adhesives are involved, is far from simple. And this is where the emerging emphasis on reusability comes in.

Indeed, as our understanding of sustainability deepens, reusability is becoming an increasingly attractive alternative to recycling. It offers significant cost savings while aligning with the growing demand for sustainable solutions. So, the question arises – how can we help our customers navigate these complexities, avoid plastic taxes and, importantly, leverage this shift towards reusability?

At SMCL, we've risen to the challenge by focusing on three key areas:

Purity Wash range of adhesives: This new range of adhesives for paper and filmics have been developed to facilitate the recycling and reuse of glass and plastic materials. Especially in glass bottling, a tremendous amount of energy is expended to recycle glass bottles simply due to removal of the label. This new range of adhesives is gaining accreditation across Europe for the various recycling and wash systems and enables bottles and all types of plastic containers to be reused more efficiently.

Ecopack: Our high barrier translucent paper packaging solution, Ecopack, is designed to replace avoidable plastic packaging by replacing composite sachets, pouches and flow wrap packaging with a mono translucent paper high barrier packaging solution. This translucent paper can also be laminated using any of our vast adhesive ranges to replace PP or PE labels from your packaging.

Recyclable and Reusable Grades: We're converting industry-standard non-recycled materials into recyclable and reusable alternatives, replacing mixed composites with mono-board layers. Ecoform is one such example of developing a mono board layer with exceptional tear and water resistance and replacing industry standard mixed composite grades for market sectors such as food, horticulture and logistics. Our focus is again primarily based on the replacing of avoidable plastic packaging which will negate the recently introduced plastic taxes such as PPT and EPR.

While these advancements are exciting, I believe it's important to remember that we're all learning in this new landscape. We're not here to dictate the use of these products; instead, we're offering a range of solutions for our customers to explore and adapt to their unique needs. As we move forward, these sustainable applications will provide crucial drivers for growth.

By enabling the use of new, sustainable materials, we're not just addressing environmental concerns; we're also helping businesses boost their bottom lines and accelerate revenue growth. This is the exciting intersection where SMCL sits - and we're eager to help our customers explore its vast potential.

We'd like to discuss how your business can thrive sustainably and profitably in today's market. Let's turn these challenges into opportunities for growth together.
